Granato is a material designed to be worked with the basic tools of wood transformation. For it's correct manipulation it is necessary to have basic knowledge in general carpentry and handling of the common tools used with this material.

Granato offers in its technical department theoretical-practical courses where offers the opportunity to learn how to transform and install the solid surface correctly.

For additional and advanced processes in transformation like Inlays, curved surface production , post-formed, veneers on wall or wooden substrata, partial and/or total repairs, it should be consulted directly with our Technical Department.




Granato's Transformation and basic installation

PERSONAL SECURITY

When transforming and installing the Granato solid surface, you should kept in mind the following recommendations:

  • Working in illuminated areas and with good ventilation.

  • Use auditive protection and security glasses when using saw or router.

  • Use mask for powders to make the polish process.


STORAGE MANIPULATION AND TRANSPORT

The Granato sheets must be transported vertically, each badge by two people (never raise it up in horizontal way, since it can cause fractures to the sheet), during this operation it is recommended to adopt a position that doesn't affect the spine, flexing the legs and always using belt.

Store horizontally over plane surfaces, to preserve the product specifications and characteristics and guarantee a perfect perfomance in the transformation.


TRANSFORMATION START
Verify the definitive measures in the work to guarantee the success of the transformation and installation.

Check the sheet before separating or cutting, with the purpose of verifying the color and status (the sheet should be humidified with water).

Before beginning the cuts in the sheet, this should be rectified and squared, using metallic straight guides and a router.

The separation of the 12.7 mm Granato sheet can be made with circular table saw , minimum 2 HP, with tungsten disk from 10 to 12 inches with 60 to 80 teeths and an incidence angle from 0 to 5 degrees.

To cut 6 mm Granato and Opalizzo the 2 HP router offers an appropriate perfomance, with tungsten FRESA of straight cut.


CLAMP AND MIRROR IMAGE FOR SURFACES
One of the most important advantages in Granato is the possibility to make imperceptible unions that are known as union by parallelism in the factory process or clamp and mirror image.

For this step, the router is indispensable , 4 press, straight guide, and a bit in perfect status

Once carried out the mirror cut to the two surfaces, proceed to clean the borders with isoprophylic alcohol . Mix the adhesive Granato as indicated it the handling instructive, and apply to both sides. Unite the parts and press. use presses on the pieces during one hour minimum (don't remove adhesive excesses on the union until it gets perfectly dry). it is recommended to place a structural reinforcement, in the inferior part of the assemble, in the same material.

BORDERS STICK
The borders production requires of a very adjusted stick making continuous pressure. It is very important to pass a 180 grain sandpaper to the other side of the sheet to get a better adherence, clean the powder with isoprophilic alcohol , prepare the adhesive as it is indicated in the users manual, place it in both faces and proceed to unite and press for an appropriate adjustment, eliminate the adhesive excess, wait it to dry off (one hour) and proceed to sand.


Borders Routing
With the routers' help and a moderate range of tungsten bits, the different types of finishes in the borders are carried out, convex molding, half-round, bevels, etc.


SPLASHERS IN HALF-ROUND
In the production of splashers with end ups (half-round) it is necessary to add an element in Granato between the badge and the vertical end up; that is previously machined to get the internal covering radius, as shown in the sketch.


HANDSWASHERS, DISHWASHER AND COOKING DEVICES PERFORATIONS
This perforations should be made with the help of cutting templates and a router.

To assemble handwashers and dishwashers in Granato, the badge and the well should be sanded in uniform way and verify that they coincide exactly, apply the adhesive in both pieces and proceed to press them until you get the total cure (one hour approximately).

After this step, the internal borders of this assemble are manufactured with the router and the bearing bit, designed for this purpose.


FINAL SURFACE POLISHING

The polish process should be made with roto-orbital, electric or pneumatic sanders, with different sandpaper numbers, it is adviced to sand the borders with sandpaper, humid and by hand.

In the Granato solid surfaces there are easily achieved 3 finishes types that go according to the necessity or client's pleasure:

Mate finished: To obtain this finished, sandpapers of grains 220, 320 and 400 are used progressively, until the material shows its own shine.

Glossy finish: It is achieved adding to the previous process a hand of car polisher cream , by hand or with machine, until the surface is smooth.

Brilliant finish: The sand process should be taken until sandpaper grain 600, apply the car polisher cream and add neuter liquid wax with electric or pneumatic machine


SURFACES INSTALLATION

It is important to check the supports where the finished surface will be placed , the distance among them should not be larger than 60 cm to avoid possible bulges.

The anchorages for the installation should be perfectly leveled.

To paste the surface to the supports or anchorages, the use of normal silicon is recommended, because assuring it with screws can cause ruptures.

Equally, the stick of loose splashers, should be made with normal silicona.
